Makes 12 cinnamon rolls
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cup flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 stick melted butter
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1 medium egg
- 1 packet of dry yeast
for filling:
- 1/2 stick soft butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
for glaze:
- 2 oz cream cheese
- 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar
- 3 tbsp milk
Directions
Add flour and sugar to a stand-up mixer bowl
Whisk an egg and add it to the warm milk and melted butter. Once mixed, add the yeast to the mixture and stir
Add this mixture to the flour and let mix for about 2 minutes
Once a sticky dough has formed, cover the bowl with a tea towel or plastic wrap for about an hour and a half, or until it has doubled in size.
Once the dough has rested, remove it from the bowl and place it on a floured work area
Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4" thick
Spread the soft butter on the dough with a spatula or a brush making sure to cover all the edges
For the filling, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl and sprinkle it all on the rolled out dough leaving a small border so that it doesn't leak while baking --- tip: to make sure the filling stays in place, roll a rolling pin over the dough pressing the sugar and cinnamon onto the butter
Roll the long side of the dough tightly, leaving the seam at the bottom of the roll
Cut the dough into 12 equal pieces with a sharp knife
Place the cut cinnamon rolls onto a lined baking sheet or into a baking dish making sure none of them are touching
Let the cinnamon rolls rise for 30 minutes before placing them in an oven preheated to 350 F for 20-22 minutes until they are golden
While they are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing the cream cheese, milk, and powdered sugar
Once the cinnamon rolls have cooled, drizzle the glaze over the rolls and serve!
